Adulthood is Adulting (Part 2)

"Afrina damia!" the nurse called my name from across the room.

I greeted Dr Tarmizi and sat myself down infront of him.

"We got your lab result and the test came out to be not cancerous"

"Alhamdulilah, Dr"

He explained further in details.

"So now, you have two option. Either, you can remove it or you can let it be there and it will potentially shrink"

You already know my asnwer.

My surgery was scheduled on semester break. I intentionally chose that date because I thought of the post-surgery recovery that should take me a week or two.

2nd May 2023.

"Bilik dah ready ya Ms Afrina"

I followed her to my room and was accompanied by my then boyfriend.

We unpacked my stuff and was briefed by the nurse that she will be getting my blood pressure and taking blood sample and IV drip.

"Okayhhhh!"

Yes someone was excited because I got 2-bedroom and didn't have to worry about my assignments for awhile.

Jk. I had to bring my laptop to finish my literature review report.

11 p.m.

Blood pressure, done.

Taking blood sample, done.

IV drip, done.

Wait....not quite.

First nurse came to do the IV drip, failed.

Second nurse came.

"Nurse tadi tak tak dapat cucuk tangan awak kan?"

"Ya, nurse, dia suruh tunggu jap"

"Okay I will be doing it again"

At this point, tangan I dan merah resulted from pukul-pukul manja by the first nurse.

Second nurse, did the same thing, she nagged while pukul-pukul manja my tangan so that the vein show up.

"I will be doing on your left arm because IV drip will be on your right hands"

"Okay"

She eventually did it and I slept.

Until....

"Afrina, Dr Tarmizi wants to see you, pakai tudung"

WHERE THE HELL IS MY TUDUNG??

*Pakai tuala instead*

Dr Tarmizi footsteps were near.

"Hi Afrina, how are you"

Guys, 1 visit costed me RM600. Yes, Dr Tarmizi came checking me in at night costed me RM600. Maybe because he is a general surgeon so his rate were high but still, fuh. RIP Insurance.

"I'm okay Dr"

"Saya nak mark the lump with marker pen so it will be easier for surgery tomorrow"

The nurse asked me to lift my hospital gown.

"Tolong rasa where exactly the lump is and put your finger there"

I go around my breast and put my finger on the lump.

"Right here, Dr"

He marked the lump with pen marker.

"Okay, done, I'll see you tomorrow, you will have to fast also"

"Oh okay..."

He left.

The nurse only told me to fast after Dr Tarmizi told me to and I just remembered I had nasik goreng.

"Means saya tak boleh makan kan?" I asked the nurse.

"Makan dan minum" answered the nurse.

Oh boy, I telan galloon of water tadi.

"Okay, nurse"

I finally slept.

The next day, 6 a.m.

"Hi morning, saya nak ambil blood pressure ya"

Blood pressure done and I terus subuh.

*Whatsapp notification ringing*

I looked at the phone.

It was my dad.

"Ayah minta maaf tak dapat teman kakak"

Naw, I wasn't sad until I read that text.

......sedih sikit.

I asked for restu the other night from my parents not knowing what the situation would be for me. I am big enough to go through this alone and not having my family by my side shouldn't be an issue. But, it would have been nice to have a company especially if my mom cook my fav dish ayam masak lemak cili padi (which I call gulai ayam) after the surgery, wouda been perfect.

Ok dah.

Before getting into the surgery room I was required to take off everything (completely naked) including accessories and change into their surgery clothes. It was hella colder than I thought. Ahhh, wtv.

Physically, prepared.

Now, for mental fortitude.

And one last burp.

On our way to surgery room.

*converstion between the nurse and new surgeon assistant in the hallway*

"Baru ke kak"

"Ya, saya baru masuk 2 minggu"

"Ohh, nama apa"

"Marisa (bukan nama sebenar)."

"Saya, Aina (also bukan nama sebenar)."

and I was there enjoying the conversation while tryna fight the cold.

In the other room, I had to change bed.

She put the mask around my head and the next thing I know...

"Afrina....Afrina...."

Sayu memanggil ku.

"Afrina...bangun.."

I woke up half asleep and the first person I saw was the assistant.

I bursted into tears.

"Afrina kenapa ni?"

"Everything's ok kita dah siap dah"

Still crying.

"Dia takut kot" said the assistant to the other person.

I wiped my tears and calmed myself down.

Back to my room with a wheelchair.

The first thing I asked was........hahahaha

"Boleh saya pakai panties?"

"Bolehh kat mana ya?"

She took it from my backpack and finally I felt comfortable a bit after being naked for 3 hours.

Fuh.

First shower was a bit awkward I had to be extra careful with the wound.

My open wound was treated with a wound sealant spray instead of stitches. Dr Tarmizi didn't explain why he chose this method beforehand? so.......???

After hours, the nurse casually handed me a water-resistant dressing to use on my wound before showering.

"Esok saya dah boleh discharge ke?"

"Dr Tarmizi nak tengok luka dulu"

"Ohh, okay."

She left.

My dinner was prepared and I tell you it was the best hospital food I've ever had.

It was dorry fish soup with plain rice and vegetables. Also came with biscuit and mineral water.

First bite was SOOOOOO GOOD.

I am too sleepy to continue, part 3.
